Hi,

New to the volvo world and rebuilding a 2002 v40 (turbo).

- are all the gearbox for the non turbo and turbo motors the same for this generation, need to buy a second hand one so trying to work out version I need/gearbox code.

-any trick to the drive shafts or they simply pull out like other makes?

the only change to the Gen 1 transmissions was when they went from the 4 speed auto to the 5 speed (AW55-50SN) beginning in 2001 and through 2004. There are other models which use this tranny as well but you should be able to find something used from a S40/V40 in those years for a direct fit.
