RE: HELP A LADY OWNER PLEASE
Hello mate,
Greetings from Narita, Japan.
I am not privy to V40s so please note that. I believe someone else with more knowledge on the V40/S40 would come in to help, so I'll just give you the basics to go over.
Volvos are very sensitive to scheduled maintenance and a neglected one is sure to give you problems. As to the oil burning at higher revs, it could be due to worn out piston rings, valve guides, etc.. depending on the car's service history as well as how it was taken care of by the previous owner (unless you bought it as a new). Or it may not be as serious.
Make sure that the PCV system has been serviced lately, the throttle body cleaned, the EGR system working properly, etc... Also, be sure that the engine has had a good tune-up in the last 3 years.
At the moment, the best you can do is to clean the engine and wait to see where the oil leaks from, without running the engine. If you do not see any leak with the engine off, start the engine and let it idle until it leaks oil. Locating the leak is half the battle. If it is leaking from the turbocharger, it could be as simple as a leaky gasket/O-rings, or could be as serious as turbine/compressor seals. Additionally, please tell us how many kms the car has on the odometer.
Lastly, when you have your Volvo serviced at a garage, be sure to go to the dealer (but be wary too, as dealers often try to sell you unnecessary parts/services if they figure out that you don't know much about cars) or a shop that specialises in Swedish/European cars.
I hope this gives you some hints until V40/S40 drivers come in to help you.
Cheers,
JPN

RE: HELP A LADY OWNER PLEASE
Hello again,
Well, it seems like there is a leak somewhere on the turbocharger. Again, wait for V40/S40 owners or Moderator Tech to reply, and in the meantime I would try not to drive the car as much as possible until the problem is resolved. If you must drive the car (which I highly discourage to prevent further damage), make sure that the engine does not go low on oil. Check the oil level everyday until the problem is resolved.
I am not privy to the turbocharger on V40, and I can only assume that something is either cracked or loose. What did the boost gauge tell you the last time you drove the car? In case if the turbocharger is beyond repair, your best bet would be to install a rebuilt unit.
Sorry I could not help you better.

RE: HELP A LADY OWNER PLEASE
Sounds like you might have a couple of different problems.
First I would inspect/replace the PCV system. If something clogs in the system it will cause the engine to suck oil into it and burn it.
The misfiring might be from that or a bad spark plug or coil.
Do you hear any noise when it should be boosting?

RE: HELP A LADY OWNER PLEASE
Check vent system for cloggs.
Check vaccum hoses for leaks.
Check boost controller hoses for cracks/splits.
Maybe if you can have someone try to read the codes. There might be codes eventhough there is no light on.
Sorry I also forget and am in the middle of the reply when was the last tune-up and coil and ignition wires replacement?
When it runs bad does the check engine light flash when accelerating?
