Default How compatible would the parts from a 2000 V40 2.0T 4auto be with a 2001 2.0T 5auto

Hi there,

I have a 2001 Volvo V40 2.0T 5speed Auto which unfortunately has a blown transmission at just 110,000km (~70,000 miles). Instead of replacing the transmission, I am considering buying a 2000 V40 2.0T which has the four speed transmission and 167,000km (~100,000 miles) and driving that. I would keep the 01 V40 and use the parts from it to replace anything that breaks in the other one.

So my question is, to what extent can I use parts from a 2001 V40 2.0T 5speed auto on a 2000 V40 2.0T 4speed auto?

Would the transmission from one fit the other? And if you have any knowledge about other parts that may or may not be interchangeable that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance!

Re the two transmissions, the compatibility issue is likely to be in the transmission/computer set up not the bolt holes. Best to do some research on what CPU/program versions are used for each. Other than that, the other differences to note are in the front struts for the 2000s vs 2001-2004s but most other parts should fit both models.
