Default Low engine REV

I took my Volvo V40 2001, 1.8 to a garage where the starter motor waschanged. When I picked up the car I found that the REV was fluctuating andalways going toward Zero which made my drive home very tricky. Can anybody tellwhat is wrong and how I can adjust the REV to minimum?

Thank all.

Might be a vacuum hose dislodged whilst being serviced.
See if you can find any obvious loose hoses or connections otherwise take the car back and have them rectify the problem.
They should have test driven the car after completing the starter motor installation so that should have been obvious to them.

Thank you very much, it was surprising to me that a car that drove well to the garage came out with such a problem. I would take it back and get him rectify the problem.

Agreed - probably one of the two vacuum hoses that connect to the top of the intake manifold on the rhs. These would likely have been taken out to get access to the throttle body and idle control valve. Both of these need to be removed to access the starter.

You can easily check this yourself to potentially avoid a drive to the dealer. See pages 8-10 for steps on how to access the two vacuum hoses:
