Default Replacing broken tail light

I was in an accident and need to replace the rear tail light. My mechanic told me that i would have to replace the whole panel, from driver side tail light to passenger side tail light, as its all one part. Is this true? Thanks

Did the outer part or inner part break?

i'm pretty sure just the outer part. i uploaded a photo so you can see.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

now that i think about it, if you meant outer as in corner and inner as part of the liftgate, then its the inner. i initially thought you meant inner as in the casing holding the light bulb, but that's why i uploaded the photo. the mechanic explained that the corner piece would be easy to fix but its the center piece that is all one panel. please tell me he was wrong.

I do believe it is all one section. Remove the tag and look behind it. But I think it is all one piece.
