Hello members,

I have a very strange noise comming from the engine.
It's like a "rattling" noise and it appears approx once every second when engine is in idle.
And as far as I can locate it's comming from the top of the engine.
Over the past month or so the noise have encreased.

sounds kinda like a bearing.. but i am no expert. definitely not good. take it in as soon as possible.

 

There is one strange thing, when engine is cold ( the first 3 - 5 minutes untill the thermostat opens up for the engine cooling wather ) the engine runs "normal" with no rattling noise at all !!

 

100% vvt pulley on end of cam shaft, Dont be lead to belive anything else.
Had this problem with my 2001 v40. get it replaced and at the same time change oil,filter and get a new filter gasket for under the vvt solonoid.
It cost me £150 for the pulley and £120 to have fitted by my compitant mech (NON VOLVO)
