Default V40 2.0T bad starting and oil leak

Hi just surfing the web and came across the forum. Can anyone help.

My V40 takes ages to start whatever the engine temperature, also it suffers from an oil leak under the top cover.
When removing the oil filler with the engine running there appears to be quite some pressure, is there a likley breather that is blocked.
Also the Lamder light comes on, can I retreave this as it goes like a train or should I get it a bullet in the head.

Thanks

Volvo has a tech bulletin that says a sheild needs to be installed by the speed sensor and that might help the cranking forever to start. Some times the oil cap seal is bad and will make the oil leak into the spark plug cover. Also there might be a problem with the vent box.Sometimes they do get clogged. The check engine light you will have to take it to someone to have the codes pulled or buy a scanner.

Hi

Thanks for the info, I've tried the filler seal so I'll look for the blocked breather next I presume it is the pipe that comes form the plug area and then dissapears down the front of the engine. Someone advised me that I should change the temp sensor but I couldn't find where it went.
Also where is the speed sensor.

Sorry for all the questions

Thanks again

Simon

The coolant temp sensor should be in the thermostat housing. The engine speed sensor is on the top of the transmission where it meets the engine. There is a 10mm bolt that hold the sensor in the engine. The bracket that holds the sensor is attached to the engine.

The breather box should be under the intake on the passneger side. You will have to remove the intake to get to it.

I am a new owner of a 2000 Volvo V40 with approximately 51K on the odometer. I have noticed in the 6 months I've owned the car that it has been taking increasingly longer and longer to get the car to start (i.e. excessive cranking before engine ignites). The "check engine" light has not come on in these past few months - until last week (it's now on, and the engine takes longer than ever to start). I've stopped driving my car immediatelyl once the light came on (I have an old spare car to fill the gap). The car is now at my Volvo dealer and they called me yesterday to tell me that the ONLY code they were able to pull from the ECU was one that stated " misfire within first 100 rpm's ". They tried changing the plugs, but this didn't make any difference. I read your reply to a posting with a similar starting issue and wondered if your response (re: installing shield over speed sensor) might apply to my situation as well.

Any input or advice you may have to offer is GREATLY appreciated...

Much thanks,
