V40 running lights
2004 V40
Looking for info about changing running light for and aft on V40. Do the lenses pop out, or are they secured with fasteners of some sort? I have looked in manual, and can find nothing that pertains to these particular lights. Any info is appreciated as always.

Hi, they are they small lights on side of car, in front of wheel (in front), and behind the rear wheel. The lens is four or five inches long, and I can not seem to feel anything behind them, nor are there evident fasteners (like screws) that would indicate that is how they come out. The sad part is that nothing is mentioned in manual.
Thanks for the reply

I am now wondering if these lights are not a single unit? In other words, not a simple bulb replacement, but the unit as a whole? Could explain why it is not covered in manual...anyone with a v40 who has had to replace the side marker lights front and rear?
Thanks

On mine (2002), the lens assembly pops right out of the bumper. Take a plastic knife (or wrap a bit of cloth around a screwdriver) and insert it between the bumper and the lens and pop it out. You will find that the lens has some play in it to allow you to wiggle a prying tool in there. Insert the tool toward the headlight end of the lens for front and toward the rear door end for the rear.
Once the lens is popped out, you will see that the bulb just twists to disconnect it.
Funny you mention it's not in your manual, because it is in mine. I also found that the apps.volvocars site has pdfs of all of the pages in case you wanted to see the procedure. Try searching under another year. I understand that the only ones that don't pop right out are the older cars.
Now, as far as finding replacement lenses for the rear (red) side marker on a V40, that is another story. Mine was shattered by a shopping cart and I can find orange replacements (european) and smoked replacements (aftermarket, but in my area they require red bulbs) but I can't find the OEMred lens.

Many thanks for the reply, it is appreciated. No, for whatever reason, the owners manual DOES NOT include a single word about these lights. Just about every other light interior or exterior, however, are covered.
