Default '08 V50 transmission dipstick

Long time Volvo owner - all rear wheel drive bricks - now back into the fold after a brief love affair with ’91 DeVille. Just purchased a 2008 V50 2.4i with auto transmission – yeah, I’m married. As embarrassing as this is for me to ask, where the devil is the transmission fluid dipstick? Unless I missed it, the owner’s manual is no help.
Thanks

Don't feel bad. They hid it below the air box on the driver's side. I can only get to mine from underneath and it is pretty close to a blind operation. Remove the plastic cover that is under the engine compartment. Scoot yourself under on the driver's side. Look up just in front of the transmission. There you may see it.

Thanks AutoNaut! Amazing. Any insight why Volvo made it so difficult to get at? Regularly checking fluid levels is basic vehicle maintenance 101.

These transmissions have synthetic fluid. Under normal driving conditions it should be good for a very long time. The owners manual makes no recommendation to change the fluid, only to check it. However, both my '02 and '05 seemed to benefit from a tranny flush at 70K miles.

I guess that they don't like owners messing with it and possibly getting contaminants in there.
