1997 960 transmission dipstick
On my 960 the transmission dipstick is on the driver's side of the engine between the throttle body and the firewall. It's down pretty low, and is yellow and square on top. If the light on is just the "SERVICE" light, you can turn it off by pulling out the little rubber plug on the bottom of your instument cluster (next to the trip odometer reset) and pushing the button behind it with anything that is small and pointy. According to the manual, the service light comes on every 10,000 miles just to remind you to change the oil.....which I find hard to believe. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. 10,000 is just way too long of an interval. Hope this helps.
actually ... Volvo says every 5k miles if you drive in the city or a dirty environment and 10k if you drive mostly highway under temperate conditions ... I change mine every 3-5 thousand too, depending on how long it's been and how much city driving ... oil is cheap, engines are expensive
