Look at your latch(es)... there should be a latch lock "switch" (I assume this is only on vehicles with an anti-theft system). It should look like this latch:
I'm not sure if the latch switch is of the "normally open" or "normally closed" variety. The way to troubleshoot this is to disconnect the connector at the latch, and then turn the car to run (you don't have to start it though) and see if you get the hood open warning. If you do, short (aka "connect together") the two pins on the plug (the one that goes to the car, not the latch) and check the status of that warning light. If it's gone out, then you know that your latch switch is either defective or misaligned. You might have to replace the latch (plenty of them available out there - just make sure the one you get has the plug, and is for the correct side - I think there are two but I don't recall, having sold my V50 many years ago).
Yep,been there and done that, all to no avail.I tried that one right off the bat.
It was bumped at one time by previous owner where the bumper cover was damaged.
It has two connectors (connects to the bumper cover i'm assuming) on either side with a two connector plug showing one
black wire and one green with white stripe or visa versa, however you want to look at it.
I don't know if that affects the switch on the hood latch, not sure how it would, but not a Volvo tech either.
Soooo it still shines on and on until it can be traced.
These are hard to find in the junk yards, one may pop up now and again.
Thanks for the reply :-)
I'm kind of lost here - not sure how a bumper cover affects the latch switch (but I don't have my V50 to check either). I did a quick search on eBay and saw lots of the latches with switches, starting at about $20 delivered. Again, if you pull the plug and do the test I suggested, you'll know for certain if it's the latch switch or not (not sure if you're saying you already replaced the latch?).
I shorted the harness plug which should have shut down the open hood warning light, which it did not.Don't be lost,be found in good health and prosperity.
If you need a warning to tell you your hood is open,it might be time to hang the keys on the hook and take a bus. They over burden with to many indicators,IMO.
Then the issue is in the harness or in the module it's connected to.
I'm sensitive to a hood alert though - on my current car (2011 Mercedes GLK 350) I completed a major repair (rebuilt the transfer case end of the transmission) and on my first test drive, the entire dash flashed red suddenly. Turns out it was because one of the two hood latches wasn't fully latched. ;-) I laughed after my heart re-started...
There are times when the heart won't restart so consider yourself lucky.I wouldn't have a clue where the module would be
so it's just burn out and not fade away i suppose.
