Default Jack Stand Location

I'm planning to replace the front struts and need to get the car up on jackstands. I know about the factory jack points, but if I use them, I can't get the jack stands in. Some have said that I can put my jack on the subframe crossmember and jack up the whole front, then place the stands. Could someone confirm that would work and post some pictures so I get it right? I'm assuming I'd have to remove the cover and then locate the crossmember. Then for the jack stands, do I put them in the jack points along the side, or is there a better location. Again, if there is a better location, could someone post a clear picture so I can make sure I know where it is?
