Default 02 V70 Oil Filter Seal Placement?

Started changing my oil on my 2002 V70 2.4 to save some cash. I didn't take notice of the rubber seal placement on the oil filter canister before taking it off (live and learn).

I put it back on the second ring or wide space area up from the base or last ring just under the notch on the canister. After a tighten by hand and about one half turn with oil wrench, the canister base edge does not come flush to the bottom of the oil pan? There is a gap although it is tight. After a day of driving I,ve got two oil drops off the canister. Is this the correct seal placement? Thks.

Default Oil Seal Change

I just did an oil change on my 2000 V70 and that's where I put the new seal....been driving for 2 weeks now without a drop of oil lost, are you sure you have the element centered? My can goes flush to the block. might be worth a second look for sure. Good Luck.

Simple mistake. Driving it must have re-adjusted alignment on the element a bit. I could turn it a lot more and it flushed up to the oil pan. No leaks after the crank. Thanks colt1911a!

Thumbs up oil seal

Well I can't say driving with it like that re-aligned it, things can't move by themselves. but another little trick is to put a bit a little bit of silicone or even vaseline on the threads, and by all means like I have found while doing any mechanical work, be patient, take your time and double check yourself, and you will have a lot better go at it. Glad I could help.

Colt, go to your dealer and invest in the tool for it.

Also, put the filter element all the way in engine first, if it does not stay, your not using Volvo I suppose.

Default oil change

I already have the oil filter wrench from a dealer, I think it is safe to say, that daveyleeprinsze is the one who needs the tool, I only suggested a little silicone or something of the sort to make threading the filter can in a might bit easier, but thanks for the reply anyway....it's alway's easier if ya have the right tools, and I've got more than I need when it comes to that, Have a great day!!
