1998 V70 what are the holes in back of rear seats?
I'm buying a 1998 V70 and I want the rear cargo cover. I've been looking online and it seems they're like most where it's a long tube that sits behind the rear seats. My question is what are the long slots or tube looking things along the top of the rear seats? It looks like a cargo cover could fit in there, but from pictures I've seen online that's not what they're for. Any ideas?

I recently noticed these roundish slots too in our '05 model, and am also curious. We have a cargo cover that mounts to the side walls behind the seats and is the conventional windowshade type. Hard to imagine it's just a left-over from an earlier design. Maybe it's got something to do with either the third seat system or a pet gate.

OK, if you click on the camera icon under my name I've added a pic of the cargo area of a V70. You can see the covered slot right under the headrest onder both sections of the back seat. Each cover is spring loaded and flips up revealing a cylindrical slot. Someone must know what this is for?

I just went out and looked at my 98 V70 and I have the slots too, but mine has a mesh like curtain thing that pulls out of those slots. I doesn't look like a cargo cover because it is like a mesh and then turns solid black after about one foot.
Looked it up in the Owner's manual and they are Luggage nets. There is supposed to be a bar, which I don't have, that goes from side to side on the roof and you hook the net to that. Manual says they prevent cargo from bing thrown forward should the vehicle stop suddenly or be involved in an acident.
You say you have the slots but the net is not in the slots? That's strange. Mine has tabs sticking out that you use to pull the nets out.

Ok thanks. Yeah the car I'm buying has the slots but they're empty. I thought they might be for a cargo cover, but all the cargo covers were seperate pieces that attach behind the seats. I just wanted to make sure they weren't a different type of cargo cover before I bought one. Thanks for the help.
