2001 V70 fair pricing?
I used to drive a Volvo 850 and it served me well for many years. I paid around 2k for it. FF ten years and used cars in similar condition seems high priced.
What's a fair price on a 2001 v70? I test drove this one today and it is in great shape considering the age. It has the 2.4T engine in it. I love the car, I just want to make sure I am not paying too much. KBB says 3.5k is fair market price but that is not the most accurate. Excited to have another volvo

One thing that's unusual about a 2001 is the throttle module that fails - you don't think about a throttle plate being a big deal but - on that car it is a known failure point and a rebuilt one is about $600 plus labor.
If you have not had a newer Volvo (99+) with the CAN bus system and it's many "modules" - you will be in for a shock at the complexity and expense of the cars and repairs.
There are many other expensive failure points on 20 year old Volvo - You should have a Pre-purchase done by someone very familiar with Volvos and learn as much as you can to be prepared mentally for what you are getting into. (starting with the way high price)

KBB is based on reported sales transactions and sorts by market and gives a range based on condition/options etc. They also price by nature of the sale - private sales are discounted vs dealers, trade in value is way lower than sale price. If you do a national search using a site like Autotrader.com and you'll see some comparisons. I'd say at 4500 this car is probably priced on the higher end of a dealer sale so there may be some room to negotiate. In terms of the car, the most important thing is maintenance history so start by asking the seller to provide a carfax report. Since its a dealer, check what their warranty terms are. Regarding the car, 124K miles is low for an 18 year old car. The car is in Minneapolis? that's way different from say a west coast car that barely saw winter and road salt. Your inspection should check for rust etc before you drop $2000 replacing corroded brake lines etc.
Deals are out there if you look nationally. Steve & Sons Auto Sales LLC has a 2001 V70 with 145K miles in Oregon (no salt, easy winters) for $2500...

That's a reasonable price, if the throttle has been replaced, the trans has been serviced or replaced, cooling system work, ac compressor work, etc -
