My wife and I are looking for a used volvo. Won't get a lot of miles (under 3k per year) because it will be a backup car. We are interested in the V70 and want the 2001 or later because it has airbags in the back. We've read about the 2001 V70 transmission problems. A few questions:

1) Did the 2001 XC70 suffer from the same transmission problems as the 2001 V70? Or is it better?
2) If a 2001 V70 has had the upgraded transmission software and TCM and the transmission seems to be running fine as is, do you think it is still something to stay away from? I understand the transmission is somewhat of a "black box" in that it is hard to know how far it is from having troubles...so I guess I'm just thinking of a tranny this is not obviously slipping or having troubles as is.
