Default 2002 16X7 215/65-16 on '99 V70XC?

What does the community think about running 16X7 wheels from a 2002 V70XC with 215/65-16 rubber on a 1999 V70XC that came stock with 205/65-15 tires?

I am tired of swapping summer and winter rubber twice per year. The winter rubber is good but the summer rubber is dead. I found a good deal from a salvage yard on a set of four 6 spoke XC alloy wheels from a 2002 with good summer tires and am concerned about the fit.

I understand about the difference in speedometer accuracy. There could also be an issue running the standard size spare with the upgraded size. I am getting a good enough deal that I might even get a spare to match the new size and swap that when I change the tires/wheels out with the seasons. But other than those issues, my question is basically if they will fit without rubbing anything.

As far as dimensions, I guess we are talking about an extra 5mm of width on each side of the tire, an extra 1.5 inch diameter of height or .75 inch extra clearance needed around the tread surface
Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
PDLarson

Default SUCCESS!!! -Sort of-

Replying to myself...

SUCCESS!!! -Sort of-

I posted this question to a few forums and one trusted person answered that they will rub. So I reluctantly removed the very nice 215/65-16 rubber from the used wheels and found some used Pirelli P6 H rated tires in a size 215/55-16. Acording to Tire size calculator the size is nearly identical. So close that I shouldn't have to worry about any rubbing or spedometer error or spare tire size mismatch should I need the spare.

I mounted them up and was concerned about clearance of the strut against the inside sidewall but when I felt compared to the OEM size on the other front wheel it was nearly identical. With the OEM size I could just get my index finger through the gap between the sidewall and the strut housing. With the 215/55-16 I could not get my finger through but there is still a gap "almost" as big as the gap with the OEM size, just not quite enough for my finger to pass through as it did on the other side with the OEM size mounted. I think this may be in part to the sidewall thickness of the H rated tire. I don't recall the speed rating of the other tires but they are winter tires so I doubt it is as high as whatever speed the H rating is.

Anyway I decided to give it a try and I don't hear or see any rubbing at any speed and in any direction from steering lock to lock in both directions.

So in summary, 16X7 wheels from a 2002 V70XC with 215/55-16 rubber on a 1999 V70XC that came stock with 205/65-15 tires works great. They look good too.
