2002 Volvo V70 2.47 transmission problem

Well, I'd hate to write a long story here but when I picked up the wagon I now have it just about WOULD NOT SHIFT into first or 2nd. Severe slipping, squeeling, etc. I think the story is in the 850 section. I changed the fluid 3 times myself, cost less than $50. I drove the car about 2,500 miles after that I had the tranny swapped with a used one. I do believe that I could have driven the car for many miles but wanted to get my 1st gear back, some real torque (something that any T-5R owner would want) and get the kick down back. Just changing the fluid improved the situation dramatically. No it wasn't like new but it was driveable.
Yes, I do agree that slipping is the beginning of the end but the end may not be near.

transmission problem
I own a 2002 V70 2.4T, 110,000 miles, automatic transmission, FWD. I purchased the car this summer and do not know the history on it. The transmission is slipping from 2nd to 3rd....it takes too long to shift and then jumps to 3rd. This has been going on for a few months.
Should I have the software updated first or do a flush first? The volvo dealer quoted $350 for the flush, but another mechanic can do it for $130 using Mobil Duradrive synthetic, which they claim is fine instead of the Mobil 3309. I have read on some other posts that it is better to do a drain and fill instead of a flush.
Not sure what to do. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Same car same problem,Had throttle body program update ,mechanic test drove it and said it seemed resolved ,he suggested that I change the AT fluid, all the fluid was sucked out and replaced, basicaly end of story, however he said I was lucky as the next additional choice was to reprogram the trany for a cost of $135.00.
Throttle body was N/C

So I did a drain and fill with Toyota Type T/IV fluid and it helped a little. The mechanic said the fluid was very dark. I plan on doing one more drain and fill very soon. It's not delaying/jumping as much as it did before from 2nd to 3rd gear, but now when it does, it shifts up real quick before shifting down.
In addition, I was getting an occasional 'clunck' sound that happened mainly around shifting or braking. A trusted mechanic replaced my engine mount and said its a 50/50 chance it was that or my transmission. Well now the 'clunk' is happening more often, but its a little less severe.
On a different subject, in the past month or so, it has not started about 5 times. There is a rapid clicking when I turn the ignition. Lights on dashboard work. If I keep trying, the lights start flickering. Every time I get a jump start and it works. So I had my battery tested and told it was fine even though the voltage was lower than normal. After doing some research, it looks like it could be any number of things, including ignition control switch, immobilizer, bad wiring, bad PNP switch. If a jump fixes the problem each time though, I am thinking it has to be my battery or bad connection, right? When it rains it pours....
