Default 2004 V70 Transmission

I am experiencing transmission problem. Took it into Volvo Service Shop. Hook transmission to computer; no code indicating any problem with transmission. Transmission fluid is sufficient and the color of the fluid looks fine, per Volvo service person.

Symtoms: from a stop position, upon stepping on the gas pedal, the cars rolls forward slightly with the engine racing but the transmission is not engaged. It is as if the transmission is in neutral gear. A few seconds later, the car lerches forward and the transmission gear is in drive. It is as if there is a delay before the gear slips into drive. Note: This problem appears intermittently; twice yesterday and once two weeks ago.

Volvo service person indicated there is nothing that they can do at this time since they were not able to duplicate the problem at the shop. It is unsafe to drive with this problem; nearly got rear-ended on the freeway on-ramp the first time the problem occurred. Anyone who may have an idea as to what may be the source of the problem, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Gratefully yours,
Donald W

The key is to try to get it to act up with the shopforman from the dealership.Once you get it to act up they will probally perform a software download and disable the neutral control function on the transmission. They are starting to have a lot of problems with the neutral control function so they are just disabling it.

Interesting. That is exactly what happened on one of the 2001 V70s I test drove on the weekend. You say it can be fixed with a simple software change? If so, it looks like a good bargaining chip for a price reduction!

I have just started to experience the same issue with my 2003 T5 (delivered to me new in July 2003). The car has only 60,000 miles on it and I have always had it serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The symptoms are exactly the same, it will shunt forward violently as it becomes engaged. It is also doing the same thing when I reverse. The dealer has just quoted me $4500 for a transmission replacement.
