2005 Volvo V70 - need some advice
Hi, I'm living in Japan (originally from Europe) and I'm thinking about buying a 2005 Volvo V70. But I don't know much about cars (sorry!), so I'm looking for some advice. The car I found here at a small dealer is a beautiful silver 2005 2.4 Volvo V70 with leather black/blue seats. It has 66k on the odometer and sells for about 6200 USD. When I saw it the first time, I noticed there's some rust around the base of the windscreen wipers. And one of the mirrors seems to be missing a cover. Other than that it seems to be in good condition.
What else should I be looking for when I go see it again/take it for a test drive? Does the price seem reasonable?
Would love to get your advice!
Thank you

Hi,
The mileage is incredibly low, the prices seems fair considering that. That said, these do not sell for much, once it hits 100k, it will probably only be able to be sold for $3500, so that is something to consider. I have a 01 v70 and it has served me well. For me, the issues from time (not mileaage) were suspension related. Make sure it is a smooth ride. Listen to how it handles little bumps and grooves in the road.

Hello,I noticed your post and wanted to let you know what I have encountered with my 02 v70 2.4t
With my wagon I have experienced everything from bad cv axles to a blown head gasket. I also replaced my transmission at around 205,000.Why was the head gasket blown ? I have no idea, it was blown when I bought it, it took a while to find out.was there a pinhole or was the head warped? I'll never know.once these cars get older I will tell you what to look for.First off do your OIL CHANGES.Thst way the pcv firetrap stays clean
Second keep an eye on oil leaks from your cam seals.....I've had several go bad and they were spinning on the cam leaking oil.Third always let the turbo cool off by idling for two minutes after normal highway driving. If not your shaft can warp and seals start to leak oil resulting in oil consumption .Fourth be VERY AWARE of your cooling system ,make sure ANY Issues are fixed immediately.Next the oil intercooler on the oil pan can crack at higher mileage and release oil into coolant destroying all your hoses....be sure to check for signs of this after 175k....The radiator cooling fan is the next part to monitor religiously,as idling in park with AC on can overheat these engines if the resistor fails and the fan doesn't kick on.Last on the most important list is the timing belt service.....make sure it's done before the ,100k intervals and you should have yourself a nice car! Good luck

I too had suspension/steering issues with my '06 V70, but @180K, was still running like a Swedish watch when I sold it. I don't think turbo is an issue, as the OP mentioned it has the 2.4L I-5. The turbos in 2004 were 2.5L, IRRC. I'm not familiar with the used market in Japan, but I believe there was some kind of extra insurance you need to purchase on older vehicles. That may have to be factored into your final cost of operating that baby on the roads in Japan.
