Can someone let me know procedure for an oil change for a 98 v70 t-5. I would like to start doing service myself. I searched the forum and can only find the 1999 and up procedure with a comment that it is much different than 1998 models. All help will be appreciated.

Jack the car up and put it on jack stands. There is a subframe around the engine and you can put the jack stands anywhere on that subframe. I try and put the jack stands fairly far back so I can fit the pan in and can get to the filter. Open the hood and take off the filler cap. Get underneath, put a pan to catch the oil under the drain plug, thenremove the drain plug for the oil pan. It's just about in the middle of the car and is in the side of the pan to the rear. It's a 17 MM hex bolt. After you take that out and most of the oil has drained, remove the Oil Filter. You should see a little more oil come out the drain plug when losen the filter, if it's agood filtler. I use OEM or Mann, the company that makes the OEM ones. I sometimes jack the car up and lower it on the drain pan so the car is level for draining.

Clean the area around the filter. Wet the gasket on the new filter with oil. Put on the new filter. Put a new O ring on the drain plug (about a $1.50 and the dealer) and install drain plug. Tighten snug, but don't overtighten the plug or the filter. Put new oil in the filler hole. I usually put in 5.5 quarts then start it up and run for a little while. Then add more until full. I think they call for 5.8 US Quarts on the 850 and 6.2 on the V70, but I don't think mine ever takes more than six..

Pretty easy. I taught my daughter to do it herself, but then she went and married a mechanic. I doubt if my son has every paid anybody to change his oil.

 

Follow Jim's instruction to the letter other than....................
I use plastic ramps and simply drive the auto on them and chock the rear wheels.
