Have you had the Recall software done?

It sounds like it might be a fuel pump issue.

Is it possible that I get the defected Airflow/mass sensor??...I change the airmass sensor because the shop recommended (The car Lambda indicator stay on that's why I brought the car in, although the engine runs normal), when it stall, the only way to make the engine runs is to stump on the gas pedal when cranking the engine

Possible. Unplug the mass meter and start the car and see if it starts and runs better.

Wow, I have the exact same problem right now with my 99 XC wagon. I am going to try to deal with it tommorow- I wonder what this person found out?? I will post my findings when I have some. My first step seems to be a tow to the dealer (ETM upgrade info) or a reputable repair shop. Will the diagnostic check specify a fuel filter or fuel pump/ relay problem specifically?

If your going to get the ETM software upgrade you can only get it from Volvo. Same as getting a new ETM Volvo only.

on my car, it turn out to be a defected Air-mass/flow sensor (since I just replace it), the sensor hang whenever the rpm hit 2000 rpm, After I brought back the car to the shop and they run the scanner, they just change it with a new one, and the car running well ever since

Thanks for the reply DJ- you too Tech. The dealership is replacing my ECM. They say its covered under warranty but they don't sound too happy about it. Doesn't Volvo USA pay these guys well for warranty work? HOw much was your Mass Air flow sensor? I see OEM Bosch units availible for about $120-$150. I have a strange feeling that this story is not over....we'll see.

So they replaced the ETM under warranty. Of course they made it seem like they were doing me a favor and that they were not required to replace the faulty unit. Conveniently the Mass Air Flow sensor was also bad and that's not covered under warranty. I can buy a bosch unit online for $120. At the dealer the cost is $230 and of course an extra $150 to install it even though it's right next to the ETM unit. I was told the extra cost covered the "extra diagnostic and road testing" as well as labor. What a Crock! I hate getting service at these dealerships- not just Volvo. I have a friend who is a mechanic and he sometines bills 150+ hrs a week in labor charges. of course he only works 45 hrs. a week. Granted he is a good mechanic but what a scam for people to pay so much more that the real cost for labor- not to mention marking up the parts 200%. OK my little rant is done..sometimes you just have to get this stuff off your chest. Oh- and as I left the lot the Service lite came on again[:@]

If you are under 8 Years 80,000 miles call Volvo Cars and talk to them some emmissions parts are covered to the 8-80,000 miles.

Did they do an oil change on the car?
Did they forget to reset the light?

No, they did not do an oil change. why do you ask? The service "consultant" said that they reset the light. Luckily I live in area where there are about 5 volvo dealerships within a 25 mile radius. In fact I called another dealership while I was waiting for 2 days to have them read the codes and they were appalled at the "slow" service.

Wow ok.

Just wanted to make sure they reset it. If they did an oil change and it came back on then I would say their fault.

But also keep in mind I have had that happen to me as well. I would reset the light go on a test drive come back and shut the car off and restart again and the light is on again.

Unless you mean engine light?
