99 v70 engine seized today in orlando, fix or sell the car?

Just seized the engine on my V70 non-turbo due to oil pump failure, If I shop around I could get an engine for about $300 and get it installed for about $400. But in the meantime I won't have a car for about two weeks and that's a problem.
What year engines will work on this car? I can fix or sell the car. It's a 99 with a beautiful white body, dark tint, nice wheels, nice leather (except drivers). All in all it's very attractive, looks like a expensive luxury car despite the age. It does however have about 177K miles and now a bad engine. What should I ask for it?

If you can get a $300.00 motor you are really lucky!!
99 and 2000 motors only I believe.

What shop would you have do it?

A friend named Rashid will do it. He is a top notch mechanic and was teaching Toyota mechanics. Has a private place on Belle ave in Winter Springs, does mostly dealer repairs and very honest and reasonable. He swapped a S40 engine for me before for $350, worked great. So you dont think a 96 or 98 5cylinder is same as 99-00?

No the motors are different yours should have VVT and the older motors do not.

I meant is there any problem using an older 5 cylinder block? Would it not work if we switched the intake manifold and/or other components?

tech 07-16-2009 08:06 PM

I believe the block only will work you will have to swap the head over.

That sounds like too much unnecessary labor. I'll have to find a 99 or 00 I guess. Thank you for the input.

Your welcome.

KEEP IT! $700 is a small investment. you have one of the best models made. I know because I have a 1998.

have it rebuilt.

98,99 and 2000 will do. No need to sell.

yes fix the car.
rebuilt from oil pump failure is not viable. will need crank grind, new bearing rings, heads will be (more than likely) stuffed too.

Get a "replacement" motor with PROOVEN history if you can.
