Hello, I am new to the forum. I am close to buying an 01 v70 2.4t with 65K. Car fax is clean and appears to have been serviced at recommended intervals. What do I need to look for or be concerned about when purchasing this specific model. I know replacing the timing belt is of concern. What about the turbo- is it reliable, what does it cost to replace? Any advice and/or information is greatly appreciated.

Turbo seems pretty solid on this car. I don't hear of any issues other than common annoying little leaks. Do use synth oil tho due to Turbo's high RPM.
The thing to watch out for is the transmission on this car and its kind of a gamble. Lots of people have had problems and I hear a lot of people had replacement ($4k) You can test drive it in both auto and manual mode (this car has autostick) and see how it shifts (especially under some load like going up a long up hill). Some problems like 2-3 shift flares are common. I think the tranny is a bit of a gamble, difficult to tell if it is going to go bad soon. I've collected some info + pointers below, you can read more about it

Beyond this, a few other items like the brake booster can fail without warning. Have a good look through my website above if you want to now all of the issues with this car. I think I've encountered all the common ones.

Took Volvo a few years to improve the transmission software. I think most people conclude later years would be better. But then again, later years are better period. In any case, get the transmission software updated to the latest when you do get a V70.
I can only offer my own experience. 109k miles on 01 V70 T5 and 70k miles on 01 XC70 and both transmission works well. Both have the common 2-3 shift flare although it is very slight. I do full ATF flushes at 30k miles, running the latest transmission software, updated a newly designed part in it (b4 servo cover), installed a external filter (magnafine) and added lubegard HFM additive. Oh and we don't drive it too hard. That is everything I know that we can do![Smile](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The other issue on is the ETM (electronic throttle module) on this car (01 Turbos and 01-02 none turbos). There is also a software update on this but it can be frustrating to deal with in the early phase of the failure (intermittent and therefore dealer won't update until error code is persistent) You can see my experience in my website when I was battling this just prior to the software update becoming available. If you can access the repair records for this car, you might check that.
