Aftermarket Radiator not compatible with xmission fittings
Hi all,
I just purchased my second aftermarket radiator for my 1999 V70 XC AWD. Both had fittings for the transmission lines that are brass coupling but not the volvo press fit connector. I removed my old radiator connector but the threads do not match up with the brass ones I removed. Does this mean I am stuck with a Volvo Original Equipment part that is more than twice as much?

Yes. I went to a local place my dealer recommended. The radiator was 1/2 price and he made sure it fit for me. The problem is I installed it already but I think there are more major problems. First the top inlet hose is hot, the bottom oulet hose is cold. The T-Stat is good or the top hose would be cold too. Also there is some water on the dip stick, I changed the oil but saw no water in the oil? the car runs well, no smoke out the pipe but it still overheats.

Not to hijack the thread, but how do you get the trans lines disconnected? It's a '99 V70 and the lines have green plastic fittings where they go into the radiator. I have seen tools for AC and fuel lines that push the fitting in and expand it so it slides out. Is this the case for these? My radiator finally bought it and I am going to pull it tomorrow. Thanks in advance

Thanks Tech - with these funky connectors you never know what one is going to encounter. Glad I don't need another special tool to get it apart! Take care

The trans lines came out very easily and the clips did not break. New radiator is showing up today. Now it's just "reverse disassembly order" and get her running! Take care

The aftermarket radiator I received from a local supplier was missing the connection for the expansion tank and the fittings for the trans lines were different and could not be changed. Sent it back and called myswedish parts in TX and LT fixed me right up with a radiator @ $255 shipped to my door. I should have it by Friday. Thanks for the tip Texan_176.
Tech,
while I am waiting for the radiator, I am considering cleaning the PCV system. How do I know if it needs it? The car is a V70 GLT 2.4L and has 115K miles on it. Used synthetic oil since 30K miles. Car runs and idles good, no smoke from the dipstick tube or exhaust, no major leaks (just redid the turbo drainback tube it was weeping). It does use about a 1/2 quart every 10,000miles. I did notice a light coating of oil in the tubes for the intercooler and maybe < an ounce of oil cleaned out of the intercooler and hoses. Under the manifold by the throttle body has a wet look which is probably oil, but not dripping. What do you think? Thanks in advance

Dave,
I just did the install on the rad. and the OEM part is a totally painless job to get in. Be sure to transfer the metal clips that your bolts hook on to from your old rad. to the new one.
A bit of trivia about the new OEM part is that it is made in Spain whereas the factory installed one was made in Sweden.
I'm repairing this S70 for a friend and well into $750 worth of parts undoing 10 years of hard driving and abuse. Looking at the collection of parts made in Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Japan, and Germany under the hood I want to buy my own Volvo in the future.
The XC70s look nice and solid while the V70 turbos look like they could be a ton of fun. I'm just more of a fan of the wagons.

I will transfer the clips over. The wagon is great fun Unfortunately, it's my wife's car and I only drive it after I have fixed something or we go on trips. Other than that, she runs it, and I fix it. She teases me about my Ranger being a dog, but little does she know my twin turbo, 351W stroker (408 CID) 1979 LTD will rise again and blow her purple wagon into the weeds!!! Ok, so its my project car and I can dream, can't I? Did you clean the PVC deal on your car? If so, what were the symptoms, how many miles and did you take everything apart? Thanks
