Default 96 850 auto xmission lock

When starting car, I have to press the gear changer stick detent button just ahead of shift stick to be able to move the stick to drive, neutral, reverse etc. My ABS lite is on all the time( Am working on that) (also cruise control won't energize)
Any relation between shift lock solenoid not functioning to relase gerar shift and my other problems? Need help. Thanks

You’ve got three separate issues.

The manual release button is connected to a cable that is used in conjunction with depressing the brake pedal. Replacement or adjustment is probably required.

Sounds like you’ve read the posts on the ABS issue.

Cruise control problem is probably due to vacuum hoses being old, crusty ‘n cracked. Replace any that are crumbling.

I learned through a thread that the ignition lock could be the cause of another problem I had; and jangling the igntion key may prove the lock the culprit. It wasn't; however I gave it a try with my locked transmission problem, and the lock released with ignition on and break applied. Seems my lock was worn enough that the contact needed to operate the solenoid below transmission shift lever was getting no power. I'm not an avid key jangler now; however, when I have other similar problems, I'll probably do a key jangle first. Thanks to all of you for help.

Ok so here's a good one for you. If it gets to be over 95 degrees outside my 95 850T starts fine, but, the abs light is on, I have to use the shift lock button to shift it out of park, and the turn signals don't work. When I go out in the morning and it's cooler outside it starts up and everything is normal. What say you?

That’s interesting... Sounds like cracked solder on a relay or something

I once had a old crx that didn’t like starting in the heat because of cracking in the main relay... but that was a common problem on that car...

what your talking about... sounds similar (kind of), but uncommon... where would I start... buhhh... got me...

someone here has to know something about how all these things all come together...

That's exactly what has me stumped. That 3 seperate things happen under the exact same conditions EVERY time. Yet I can't get my mind around where to start looking. Also when this happens the hazard flashers still work. I know this because I have to put them on and use hand signals every time I turn! LOL!

If you have an ABS light I would start with fixing that problem and seeing what happens after that.
