Default AWD to FWD

I recently purchased a 1999 Volvo V70 XC AWD where the kid who sold it to me hacked out the rear drive line, which left the opening to the front transfer case (best guess)?? I was unable to get under the car to inspect due to a foot injury, but everything else seemed to check out. So, I kind of got burned as it was advertised as a fully functional AWD vehicle.

Despite this, my question is how do I plug this hole up? Being FWD is fine, I just need to car to get around, but I would like to make sure water and dirt are not entering this area.

See attached photos. One is where the front of the drive line goes in and the other is the rear.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just leave it. It looks like he took the pinion out completely, which isnt available separately anyway. So the angle gear is junk.

Thanks for the quick feedback. So, just to clarify, nothing negative will happen because of this? Water, dust, dirt, etc., won't have any catastrophic effects?

The guts of the angle gear are missing and cannot be purchased separately if you wanted to go back to AWD. So the whole angle gear is worthless right now.
