Brake Squeal

Brake Squeal
Hello all. I have a 98 V70. Lately I've been hearing the signs of needing new brakes. That horrible squeal. Took the car to a local brake shop (one that I've gone to for 3 different vehicles and I trust them completely - know the owner) the tech said that the brakes were excellent practically new (that's what I thought) and that the rotors looked fine. The tech suggested it may be the road treatment that has been used for the snow. A salt/sand mixture. Perhaps sand is causing the noise.
Took the car and had the underbody wash done and I still hear the noise. Any thoughts?
He also said I have a leaking rear shock. What type of $$$ am I looking at for that?

RE: Brake Squeal
As long as I use OEM pads my brakes do not squeal. Anytime I have tried any other pads my brakes squeal. I just bought the T5R and threw away perfectly good pads and installed OEM all the way around and replaced the front rotors with OEM also. I would have used Brembo rotors, but was in a hurry and didn't want to wait for an order to arrive just to save $25.00 total by ordering from fcpgroton. I have never heard of winter road treatment causing brakes to squeal, and I have lived in several snowy areas.
