Default Cosidering V-70 Station wagon with high mileage

I have driven 940 GLE model 1997 station wagon. This car had proved to be rock solid. Now planning to buy the above subject car. The car has done 270000 Km and still looks in great form. The car has complete service history.

What do you suggest guys, should i go for this car. If yes then what are the things or major problems in this model which i should look around.

Thanking all of you in advance

What year is the car? They had problems from 99-01 with the ETM.

Sorry i forgot to tell you. It is 2000 Model. One silly question, what do you mean by ETM. Is it very expensive component of the car or is not repairable....

Electronic Throttle Module. First the bad news: Yes it's expensive and goes bad quite a lot on 99-01 models. Now the good news: Volvo will fix if for free for up to 10 years or 200,000 miles. Takes the sting out of buying a 99-01, but I would still stick with the 98 personally.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not in hurry. Still my 940 GLE stataion wagon has got lot of muscles. I will try to get 1998 V-70.

Best Regards

I feel very fortunate to have picked up a 98 v70 back in 2004. I didn't even know of the ETM issue at the time. Heck, I didn't know much of Volvo period. This car has treated us very nice and I'm happy to own it. It's nice to know Volvo will replace it.

Picked up our V70 T5 several months ago, and we've been very pleased with it. Had just under 90,000 miles on it when we bought it, and we only paid $12,500 for it. The catch is that we've had to replace the brake booster, get the ABS computer rebuilt, and fix a small oil leak that just developed, plus we'll have to do the timing belt in the very near future. Still, it was a great deal even with the work, and the car looks and feels virtually brand new. Two things to do if you get the 2000: 1) get the ETM software update, it's supposed to help the computer diagnosis and set a code for a failing ETM much better (like was already mentioned Volvo will cover the ETM for 10 years, 200K miles). 2) If it's an auto, get the neutral disable update done, it makes a HUGE difference in how the auto drives.

What do you mean "software update"?

Is this an update from the dealer or aftermarket?

What is a ballpark cost for these updates?

Is there a list of updates available for each vehicle/year? If so where?
