Default cruise control switch

I recently tried to use my cruise control and I could not make it work. It seems as if the button on the end of the turn signal lever cannot be depressed. It will toggle up and down, as to addjust speed, but I can't get the control to activate. Do I have to replace the entire stalk or is there a fix? I don't use it too often, but it's the kind of thing that's nice to have when you want it.

I searched but did not find this question on any posts.

Thanks. Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

The switch is supposed to toggle.
What year is the car?
I assume it is a 1999 to 2000 car.

Yes i have this same problem.
Everytime I'm doing some highway driving in the moutains i use cruise control.
The cruise control wont work for me.
I think the cuase could be thatI ajusted the fuel throttle so the fuel pedal would feel tight again. do u think this could be disangaging the cruise control please let me know what u think ?

My car is a 1998 V70R. I think that the switch used to be pushed in to start the cruise control and toggle to adjust speed up or down. The switch has no in - out movement to it.

Push and hold the button in the upward direction for about 1/2 sec. and release. That should set the speed.

No, that does not activate the cruise. I've tried that. I think that I pushed the switch in to activate.

also check if your battery is leaking acid applies to 850 and 1998 s/v/c 70 only... since the acid can eat up the vacuum actuator for the cruise control mounted below battery tray. to replace the stalk is simple. just took steering column trim cover off 3 torx 25 screws below steering column trim(if I'm not mistaken) then 2 phillip scres to takes the stalk off also disconnector for the stalk. Installation isin reverse order. hope this helps

Hey thanks. Can't believe it's that simple. I'll have to give it a look. Wonder what a replacement part from Volvo would cost.
