Today, I went to local repair shop to replace ABS unit.
I brought my ABS unit I bought online store so all they need to charge me was labor.
They gave me a estimate how much it will be to install ABS unit.
They told me that $250 plus Tax. They said that it's about 3 hours job according to mechanic labor manual.
Well, I'm not really good at working on the car and there are no Volvo dealer close to where I live,
so I led them work on my car.
When I came back from repair shop, I called Volvo dealer and ask how much they charge for installing ABS unit.
They told me it will be $109, so I called repair shop that worked on my car and asked why they charged me more than Volvo dealer charge.
The guy at repair shop told me that Volvo dealer usually tells you cheapest estimate and charge a lot later.
He even told me that it will be more than $300 just for labor if I take my car to volvo dealer.

What do you guys think? Did I get ripped off?
If I did, is there anyway to get some of my money back?

 

It should only be 1 hour labor to install the module.

But sone shops will charge double because you bring your own parts.

 

It sounds like they took you for a ride I only charge a .5 labor whether it your part or ours which would only be about $45.00 to install.

Well, I guess I learned some lessons by paying more money....

It's kind of suck there is nothing I can do about it, though.

 

I hear you give the shop a bad rap with all your friends as well.

 

Next time shop around a little. Sometimes it does pay to go to a dealer. That price sounds outragous to r&r an abs module. good luck next time.
