Dipped Beam

I get the "Dipped Beam" warning and have no low beam on either side. Replaced bulbs, checked fuse, connections and so forth. It is intermitent and lights will come on after a while. Car is a 2001 T-5. Any suggestions before I start looking for a new switch?

Thanks,

Snowman

Maybe a faulty relay?

I have discussed this before. You need to get under the dash on the drivers side, Remove the lower panel and look for a Black Box looking thing with a bunch of relays. There are also funny looking long strips. Check around all of them good for burn marks.

You can also with the key off remove the relays one at a time and check them. The connections at the Cem burn some at times causing a bad connection. If you find it clean both really good and try again.

You might have to buy a new relay.

Tech,

Thanks for going over this topic again. This is a new car to me (I've come back over from the german side). Followed your lead and the relays looked good. After sterilizing everything, lights are working again. Time to buy a new relay just in case.

Thanks again,

Snowman

Let me know how it goes.

It's back. I suppose that I'll try to figure out witch relay it is, and replace it. Haynes manuals only seem to cover V 70s 2000 and older. Is this so?

Thanks again for your help,

I think they only cover the older ones.
If you can't find it by the end of Sunday let me know I will try to look it up and let you know.

No luck on a Haynes book yet. Relay's are free of burn marks and "click" when the switch is turned. Further reaserch points to the steering wheel modul and the codes must be pulled to verify this. I'm off to the dealer Monday morning to put this issue to bed.
At least I'll be able to drive away with the day time running lights shut off.

Thanks again,

If the steering wheel module was bad. The wipers will only have one speed. The highbeams won't work. Sometimes the blinkers won't work.

Thanks again for the heads up. With out a repair manual or wiring diagram, it's off to the dealer Monday. I'll let you know what they find. After searching the various forums this is not an uncommon problem but it sure has me vexed.

I will be waiting to hear from you.

Here's what the dealer found. Wires were arcing at the back of the Cental Electonics Module (the relay panel under front drivers side dash). Relays and fuses were all fine and there was no evidence of heat on the front of the relay panel. The lesson is to remove the panel and examine both sides. The dealer replaced all of the wire ends to the tune of $300+

The good news is that the car didn't go up in smoke, and they disconected the day time running lights.

Thanks again for your help,

Snowman

In a way it was what I was trying to say but harder to find than the ones I have had.
