The 850 and I think early v70 have a lever on the ECU but if yours is like our 01 V70 you either need a tool or if you're crafty, like i had to be, you can get it out with out the tool.

BUT, before you go through this, these are very dependable and it's usually something else, I would check these things.

1. Battery make sure the battery is in good condition and the voltage stays up when loaded.

2. power to the ETM make sure the voltage at the ETM is solid.

3. Clean and lubricate the ETM throttle plate shaft

4. change your O2 sensors.

Can anyone tell me where to locate the throttle plate shaft on my 2000 v70xc wagon, I'd like to try everything before buying an ecm...and what numbers are critical to match on the ecm if I need to get another???Thanks for your time

Pete,

Here's a pic of the location it's looking at the engine from the front of the vehicle
ECU Problems-etm2.jpg

This is a bad diagram because the intake manifold doesn't look like a box.
ECU Problems-etm3.jpg

it's under the intake.

Look at the link in the other thread to the cleaning video

Default Throttle plate

Took it all apart, cleaned it all shiny and bright, the car is running much better, but every now and then, it doesn't want to start...it's as if the ecm is resetting itself for some reason. And when it starts it runs pretty good, but going up a grade it lopes a bit...as if it's not getting enough fuel...Also checked my fuel pressure before starting it yesterday...and there was very little at the fuel rail.....it is leaking back into the system...am considering a stainless check valve at the rail to eliminate the problem. I've had other fuel injected vehcles, that did the samething...and that cured the starting problem...but then I have the lope to deal with?????? Bad fuel pump???? put in a new filter a short timeago..the original was in there...but overall it was very clean for the amount of time it was in there. Got my Vida software up and running....that may help. Thanks for all your responces.
