electronic throttle module

Are ETM's available online anywhere? I'm looking at an '99 xc70 with a bad module. Dealerships in NZ will do it for $2k. Bit too much. I couldn't find one on ipd or fcpgroton. Has anyone paid to replace theirs outside the warranty period? If anyone has a link, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Etm

Hello, There's a company based in Canada, near Toronto, with an additional office in/near Denver, Colorado called Xemodex. They spell their name XeMODeX. They sell an ETM which uses a Hall effect pickup instead of a strip of mylar tape coated with a conductor. I've heard you ship your ETM to them and they ship yours back. Good reports-4 screws and a gasket and you're cured. Kira

just realized I'm in the wrong section but thanks for that. Do you know how much they do it for, ballpark figure-wise? Mom lives in Canada so that's not too hard other than the 2 months of shipping back and forth

found the price. Question about cleaning though. Is it just a matter of opening it up and spraying with something like a MAF cleaner?

ETM cleaning

Hello vpatrol, Mine has never needed cleaning. Posters say to use carb cleaner, a brush which doesn't shed its bristles and rags to insure dirt doesn't flow deeper into your intake. Even on a bullitin board with a search feature you won't find more than that. A few posters who needed to replace their ETM groused about realizing no improvement after cleaning it. If you go the XeMODeX route please report on your experience. Kira

vpatrol, I'm having issues with my ETM as well and I did clean it. It is pretty easy to do - remove the plastic piping that leads to the ETM, from under the car you can see the four bolts that hold it in place (I removed them from under the car with a long extension, it can be done reaching under from the top but I found that there's not enough space for me), once they are removed I used throttle body cleaner and a soft brush. Wipe everything down with a clean rag and reinstall. I did it without disconnecting the ETM, but make sure to disconnect the battery before you do anything.

However, it did absolutely nothing for my car - the ETS light is still on and the CEL is coming on now as well. So, I think I'll go with the XeMODeX rebuild on mine.

Good luck, hope it helps.

thanks. If I buy this car, I'll definately give it a go cleaning first before I replace the etm. Happy to report back how it went of course.

Does anyone have any feedback on the XeMODeX rebuild of the ETM?
