Hard to say without having codes.
If it is running good it can wait a little bit.

Tech thanks for the reply mate
there are no messages on the screen and the car is running as normal
volvo say not to drive it fast or do any great distance as it could shut down to get you home mode adn be restricted to 20 mph
does this happen often,
does this sound like its an expensive problem

anything I can check before I go to the steeler
thanks guys

I assume you are somewhere in the UK or maybe Ireland. My answer is US & Canada, but it may work for you. For free. Check your fuel filler cap to make sure its screwed on tight. If not, at least in the US and Canada, the car's "check engine" light will go on telling you there is something wrong. If it is loose, tighten it, drive it, and the light will extinguish itself. Total cost: nothing.

Note, I almost said "gas cap" until I realized it might be a "petrol cap" to you, and I didn't want to confuse you.

OK light reset by removing the battery terminal for about 30 seconds just drove the car for 10 miles seems ok not come back on so maybe it was what I thought and there was a problem logged but not there anymore
