HID Conversion Kit
I have a 2004 XC70. One of the low beam is blown out and I am exploring an upgrad to HID lights. (I am close to 50 and eyesight is not as it used to be).
1. Any suggestions as to the best place to buy conversion kits.
2. What about the temperature options 5k, 8k... does that affect the life of the bulb.
3. Also is it a good idea to upgrade the fog lights as well.
Experts and experienced users, your advise is highly appreciated.

Sharp HID is the place most Volvo folks over on Swedespeed have been buying from. I purchased just replacement bulbs from them and was very satisfied. www.sharphid.com
Color temp is important. I would recommend 4300K or 6000k. You said you're 50, no offense, but you;re probably not into the blue light of the 8000K bulbs. 4300K is pretty much white light, 6000k has a light tint of blue to it.
Fog lights are nice upgraded, but to be honest with you, it's a huge pain to do it. The way Volvo created the housings, and just the nature of an H1 bulb make it difficult. If you want I can post up how I did mine, and they turned out great.

JTapper- Thank you very much for your advise. I bought the 55W kit from Shraphid @ $100. I think that was a good price. You are right, as a 50 year old, I am not into the blue light. I got the 5000K
If I may impose on you, I will appreciate if you can post how you did yours.
Once again, thanks for your response.

Low beams are simple, fogs are more work. Let me know and I'll write something up this weekend and try to find the pictures I took as well.
EDIT: I forgot to add, if you plan on doing the fogs, buy a 35W kit for that. The 55W will generate too much heat for the small housing.
A note to anyone thinking of putting HID conversions on their highbeams, don't do it. The illumination is spectacular but most people forget about the warmup required for the first few seconds. I put Sylvania Silverstars in my highs, and they work great and blend well with the HID bulbs.
JTapper:
I finally got around to, I should say, attempting to install the HID lamps over the Thanks Giving holidays. I realized that the battery on the XC 70 is housed in the trunk of the car.
Any ideas as to how to tap into the power source for the HID installation? You mentioned, you installed your HID. I can request you to post how you went about installing your HID lamps.

In my dad's 03 XC70 there is a + cable running to the front of the vehicle in the engine bay. For the - we just find a grounded metal area to attach jumpers.
I know your talking HID's. With all that said...

Hopefully these help.

I think what you're talking about is hooking them up with a relay. You can do that if you want to, but it's more work with nothing to gain. If you're set on doing it that way, just pull power from the fusebox under the hood at the remote jump start post. You'll be guaranteed to get a bulb-out message with this method however.
Can anyone recommend where I should purchase a H7 HID 6000K conversion kit for my 6N2help me out guys as i dont want a poor quality kitYour help will be appreciated.Thank youSunni
