Its a bracket that seems to hold the rear AWD shaft in place, and also, via 2 rubber grommets, holds the tailpipe up and secure.
Can't find the part number, name, or ANY information on this bracket.
Any ideas or anyone parting out with this bracket still available?

It's to a 99 v70 XC

 

Found it after HOURS of scowering the interwebs. Its part # 9474483 and is called a "cross member" (very generic name. if you Google "cross member" in relation to Volvo, there's tons of different ones. You must search by part # only). Its #19 in this diagram.

Hello, The usual routes available involve calling a place like fcpgroton or tasca and ask for a good price. Every once in a while Volvo puts out 20% coupons on a parts purchase. Finding a good one in a wrecking yard is a double long shot; a) It's for a P1 car, b) They'll look up the same price you did and charge a bit less. Grasshopper, just buy the part. Kira

 

I noticed I need one too. I've found it for just under $100. What's the trick in swapping it out?

I brought it to a friend's place who had a lift. We undid the 4 bolts holding the cross member, and undid the rubber grommets. We then pried down the exhaust pipe with a bar and wiggled it out. Probably some annoyances I'm forgetting considering this was over a year ago, but it's pretty straight forward. Much easier with a lift.

 

At first I thought it held the driveshaft carrier bearing, and wondered if I'd lose a driveshaft. It's basically a fancy exhaust system hanger. The left side is one for now. Will order a new one and put on when I get a chance. Thanks for the pix.

Man, am I glad I found this thread! The spring thaw rusted out the part that hangs on my S70, same as in the picture (mine's rusted worse though :P) Got the part on order now.

Meanwhile, does anyone have any tips for sliding the rubber grommet free of the curved cross member joint? I've been trying to pull them off by hand, but I don't want to break the rubber. Will they come off with a good tug, or is there another trick?

 

If you mean the rubber hangers, use some soapy water or hand cleaner and work them back and forth a bit. I got mine off without much difficulty and without breaking them. The old support unit can be worked around the prop shaft quite easily, to remove it, and the new one goes into place in a similar way. Soap on the rubber hangers allows them to go into place without much difficulty, but I seem to remember having to work them on a bit at a time, top and bottom. Getting the new support installed only took a few minutes. The hard part is preparing/lifting the car to access it if you don't have a lift.
