Smile 1999 s70 glt? to part or not to part?

new here and thought ya'll could give me some opinions. yes, i know everyone has one...here's the scenario
1999 s70 glt,
134k winter package,
started with a timing belt replacement with no positioner replacement
positioner blew up
engine seized
had engine, valves and other bs done
check engine continually came on and was reset
coil went out or heater core?, (might as well replace both while the dash wash off, so I was told) fog filled the cabin at 55mph.
mysteriously, the odometer set itself back 4k???
now, my husband lets someone borrow it, 'cause it's running ok, little smoke out the exhaust
she over heats, he lets some dope try to take her apart
top half off
take to get an opinion, they offer me $300 for scrap, i live in a very small town and even filed with small claims, the seized engine mechanics shop said "we told her not to fix it" gave it up to karma, and at this point i do not know what to do.
side note, when the positioner blew up volvo in the city nearest me gave me a estimate of $4500
now,
i can get a used engine (been told that once an aluminum engine overheats it warps and cannot be repaired) $800
i love this car despite all of this, i've had her since new
what would you do? i'm willing to spend another $200 for a second opinion.
and another $2500 plus the $800 for the engine to get it running good (if this is realistic)
i've since bought a 2005 nissan altima that doesn't even measure the luxury of the volvo but, gets from point a to b.
thank you in advance for enduring this long post
best wishes and hopes for winning a new volvo lottery!

Welcome to the forum. I moved your post from New Member's Area as we cannot leave technical questions there.

I would get rid of the S70 as it would come up with a pile of troubles in the near future. Whoever worked on the engine didn't seem savvy to Volvo.

Good luck,

JPN

Hi Silly, I would also advise you to cut bait. As JPN stated, it doesn't sound like your mechanic is Volvo friendly which is a must to keep these cars running good when they get old.

Where are you located? Maybe someone can help you with a little better direction. Again, I'd say bail because that car has cost way more than it's worth. I recently purchased a S70 GLT for $400, jumped the battery and drove it home. Don't throw any more good money on that bad situation.

Yes! Exactly what JPN and RSPI said; don't even think about trying to rebuild this one!!

And if you ever get another S/V70, don't get a '99-03 MY; suggest a '98 or better yet, get an 850!

I concur. the odds of it ever running trouble free again are very, very slim.
