Default Idle speed too high

Hi, V70 2.5 na auto, first regd 11.29.1997, bought it the other week, one owner, fsh 74000miles,
drives like it should, except that when hot, the idle speed is up to 1300/1400 rpm, ok when cold, but when warm, into n or p and revs rise to 13/1400 steady, into d and off we go, no probs, engine braking though, ie when going down hill, not as effective, it seems to want to keep to 13/1400rpm, throttle off.
Any ideas, , many thanks in anticipation
Roger

Default RE: Idle speed too high

OK sorted it, following various threads, checked the idle air control valve, seemed to be stuck!
removed, cleaned, (it wasn't dirty) still stuck, lubricated with a few drops of diesel, then it freed up, now moves easily back against spring pressure, snaps back to factory adjustment, re installed and all is fine, working properly, 850ish tick over, much easier to drive.
just had a gas conversion done, sequential jobby, 70L tank, at time or writing done about 850 miles on gas, goes fine, perhaps a little down on torque, but runs smooth and clean, especially when up to operating temperature, average mpg on gas so far around 25, including some longish runs on motorway at 80ish,
taking it back to garage next week for 1st gas service and tune up, even if it gets no better, the equivalent mpg £ for £ against petrol is around 50 which is great .
