Installed breather kit...leftover parts????
Purchased the breather kit from FCPGroton and finished installing it. After wiping my hands I looked down into the box and found some parts that weren't used....one plastic tube, a narrow hose, a flame trap holder, and the housing for the flame trap that sits in the air intake hose. I called FCP and asked if I should expect to have these leftover items and he said I should not. I couldn't see where they get installed, much less find the old parts that these were supposed to replace. Looked to me that everything about the breather system was replaced. To console me, the guy asked if my car started and since it did, I shouldn't be concerned....I'm not concerned that I screwed the car up, just a bit frustrated that I can't find where these parts go that I paid for! Anyone else have the same thing happen to them (not the phone call, the parts thing ?

Here's the photo...lost the bag that the skinny black tube came in. The 'flame trap kit' was already included on the main body of the breather kit, so not sure if I'm supposed to install this one somewhere else. No idea where the other tube goes...

Black tube not sure
Black plastic part with 2 nipples that holds the white insert then goes into the induction hose just before the throttle body.
Other black part looks like it is the insert for the rubber hose on a 960.
Small hose for replacement of broken elbows.

The new induction hose had a piece with the two nipples molded onto it that held the new white insert and it fit right into the throttle body hose so I'm guessing that there must be a small design difference between my 98 V70 and the earlier 850's. Didn't see any elbows that used such a narrow hose. So, in your best guess, I didn't leave out any crucial parts?

RE: Installed breather kit...leftover parts????
Went to the dealer today to get another intake manifold gasket and got to talking with the parts guy about my vacuum leak problem. As we were looking at a diagram of the crankcase vent system, I asked him about the rubber hose that attached the bottom of the oil separator to the engine. The hose from FCPGroton came with a metal cylinder covering it and some clamps to attach the hose to the engine. Not knowing what the cylinder was for, I removed the hose from it and attached the hose to the engine with the clamps. The parts guy says that I did bad...the metal cylinder is used instead of the clamps. Apparantly the clamps cause vacuum leakage so Volvo decided to use a press-on hose with the cylinder acting as the clamps. This probably sounds all confusing, but if you get the kit, you'll see what I'm talking about. Bottom line, toss the clamps and install the hose with the aluminum cylinder still attached to it.
