Noticed key fob wasn't working, so changed battery, but nothing. Could not lock or unlock doors or set alarms. Tried spare key fob and that was also dead. So, both remotes now not working. Independent garage say the side indicator lights also not working, despite the bulbs being ok. They think this is a sign that some onboard computer module is faulty and want to replace for £800+

Has anyone solved their remote key fob problems? Seems strange that both now not working and change of batteries makes no difference. So, problem must be car side.

First thing first, what model car do you have? What year was it built and were are you located? I'd start with a fuse. Could you NOT lock the car with the key? That usually arms the alarm.

 

V70 D5 2004. Manually locking car closes all doors, but alarm not set.

 

I have tired that on my 2013 S60 Volvo but how do you "hold down any button on the key fob" after the 4th or 5th start if the key fob has to be inserted into the "ignition" to start?

 

Well, years ago they weren't like that.
