Default keyless entry for 02 V70

Fellers,

we just got a 2002 Volvo V70T but we don't have the keyless entry/alarm remote, is there a secondary remote that will work for this car and easy to program for the alarm? To get a new Volvo remote from the dealer will be nearly $200 including downloading and re-programming.

please help

Try going to Circuit City, Best Buy, Tweeter. Or any place local that sells car stereo equipment. Because usually they sell car alarm items including keyless entry equipment.

The ONLY place that you can obtain the key fob that will work on your Volvo is from Volvo. With that said, you can purchase a used one off from Ebay but it must be the correct unit for your auto. Then you will have to pony up your $200.00 and take your auto and the key fob to Volvo as only they can activate it for your auto. By the way...........God help you if you need a key.............once again, only Volvo can obtain it for you and activate it.

I think you must deal directly with the dealer on keys and remotes. I understood it that you had to have a long code if you were to use a used remote. The code is not on the remote so almost everything on ebay is useless. I have learned do not try to go against Volvo or it will bite you in the butt. I know this not what you wanted to hear. As far as having a after market alarm installed I would advise against it. You can't even disconnect the battery without getting some warning light on the dash, which will require a trip to the dealer. Either way a trip to the dealer is in your future.

Sorry, hope it helps

Is this also true for the 98? Does it use the same lock controller or is it easier to source a remote fob and have it programed?

Thanks,
