Default noise when gas pedal is applied in drive

last week after driving my 04 v70 for about 1/2 hour a noise began when I applied the gas pedal. I took the car in and was told that the catalytic converter was bad and that the ceramic casing was cracked and that this is where the noise was coming from. They want $1500.00 to replace the catalytic converter. Is this a good price?
thanks
Jesse

Default Hi

I think that it is ok, you should get it changed i.e. you should get you catalytic converter replaced. Catalytic converters are of price $200 and rest it is its service charges. You can ask at some other shops also about their service charges.

You should expect between $800 and 1200. The converter will be between 400 and 800. The labor will be less for non-turbo and front wheel drive.

Tell them you want the old catalytic converter. You can get between $50 and $75 at a metal recycling center.

Thank you
I'm having another repair shop look at the car right now.
