Default Oil Change Interval Advice Sought

I love my new V70 (2.4L base) and plan to run it 300,000 + miles. I am getting some push back from the dealer about changing the oil less than the recommended 7,500. They are saying full synthetic every 7,500 is fine. I'm more comfortable with 5,000 to 6,000. My driving is 98% highway. Does anyone have a high mileage car without oil/sludge issue changing every 7,500 miles with full synthetic? Many thanks.

Driving conditions for highway should easily allow you to go 7500 miles no problem. I am surprised usually they want you to change it more often. The other factor would be to have a good synthetic oil and a good filter, not all are made equal without opening up a can of worms here on who make the best oil IMHO i use Amsoil Synthetics and i do a oil analysis on the oil. 1st one was at 7500, second one at 14,000. The last two reports recommended filter change only, oil ok for continued use. I have a 1995 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel with bypass filter installed and currently have 100,000 miles on that same oil. Last analysis stated oil ok for continued use. Now that’s a different animal with a bypass filter being used since the filter essentially make the oil analytically clean. For those of us old enough to remember when Mobil 1 came out the oil was good for 15,000 miles. Marketing won that battle internally at Mobil and that label was changed. Only recently has Mobil 1 gone back to the extended drain labelling. Amsoil was the first to make synthetics and has always marked the product as an extended oil change product 25,000 miles.

+ 1 to what Jbuck said. I run Amsoil in everything, I run their OE line which is made to run the manufacturers recomended intervals. Never have bothered with engine oil analysis but if you want to know 100% that is the way to go.

Needn't worry, especially with mostly highway driving.
Are you saying the stealership won't take your money for an "early" service?

I think the owners manual recommends 10,000 when doing mostly highway driving??? At any rate, tell them to do what you say unless they will start paying for your service and repairs.

The newer cars say 7,500. https://customers.volvocars.com/owne..._08b.htm#pg152
