Default Opinions needed - 1998 V70 XC

I'm looking at buying a 1998 V70 XC.
170000 miles.
Silver with gray interior.
Body & interior are in good/great condition.
Ball joints & tires need to be replaced, plus one of the turbo seals & some other minor stuff needs repair.

Asking $2000, but I think they will take a little less.

Is this a good buy, given the current issues?
How difficult is it to replace the control arms w/ball joints?
Will I need to have the car aligned once I replace the control arms?

Thanks in advance for any opinions and/or advice you might have.

Sounds like a reasonable offer, tires will be the most expensive thing to replace.

Yes you will have to get realigned if you change out the control arms.

Thanks for the reply!

I've done some additional research & I'm concerned about the viscous coupler. Especially since the car currently has one bad ball joint & it's being driven daily.

Is there a way to check this?

Thank you in advance.

Default Regarding your VC or Bevel Gear

Hello, I've not read anything about "checking" one. Posters have said that drilling and tapping drain and fill holes is a smart thing to do. Many have claimed never to have had problems with theirs. Removal of the rear driveshaft in response to a bad VC or center bearing is often posted. I'd buy the car and service the bevel gear. Good luck. Kira
