Default p0442

01 v70, CEL on, p0422 evaporative emission system leak (small leak). I had this problem on my older volvo (98 s70) and it was taken care of but this 2001 is a bit different. So far I only replaced gas cap. Tech, are there any common issues on this car that would trigger evap leak. Hoses seem to be stronger than on 98, i doubt it they crack as easy as old ones. I inspected them as good as I could, nothing wrong there.
Also, I was wondering if bad brake booster could have any connection with this code. I am probably wrong because that would be vacuum leak and i am having evap leak but still wanted to make sure and hear form experts.
thanks in advance!

That would not throw that code.
The evap valve might be bad.

Thanks tech!
It turned out to be j-hose and shutoff valve at the canister. Took me 2 hours to get this done, what a pita job. I hope this fixes it.
Just out of curiosity, how do u take charcoal canister out? There is no room for anything up there, hope i dont run into that problem.

CEL came on today again. I only put 60 miles on it since replacing gas cap, shutoff valve and j-hose. None of those fixed the problem...
I still didnt replace purge valve, will do that in the morning and hope that my CEL stays off. I am going by process of elimination, tech what would you do next, I mean what is left??

Well if it were me I would pressurize the system and check for leaks.

Thanks tech!
I bought new purge valve this morning, after that experiment failed I just left it at good volvo specialist to pressurize the system. I will know results 2mrw. How ofter do you replace gas tanks on these vehicles because of evap leaks? Someone told me today that 01+ v70 has a weak spot right next to drivers side rear wheel, he said that there is moisture on the bottom of the tank visible and that usually triggers this code. True?

I have never had to replace any as of yet.
But that does not mean it does not happen.

Well, it is a bit strange but that's result we got after pressurizing the system. I was hoping that you have replaced a few already so I could get few pointers at how to tackle this job. I got the car back, we are waiting for the part to be delivered, it might take a day or two. Anyway, thanks for your input

Hey tech, I will have the part sometimes tomorrow. What do u think can I squeeze it in without droping the tank down? Once I see the part I will have a pretty good idea myself, but was wondering if u had a chance to take a look?

I did not have one in the shop today.
You should be able to do it without dropping it.

I just looked in the parts diagram and I cannot see anything either.

I picked up parts today, took me about 1 1/2 hour to replace it. Pretty tight in there, had to drop the frame few inches. We'll see what happens from here on, got to drive it for a few miles.
Not to open another topic, today i got another code, P0073-ambient air temperature sensor circuit high input, and my ac is constantly on. Sensor must be showing hight temps. Where is this sensor located?

I've had the same problem in my '01 V70 but it only happens in extreme cold weather but it wasn't the evap valve. It was the purge valve that is clamped to the radiator. I cleaned it and it's been OK for now.
