Default Passenger window issues

Hey guys, today was a really nice day so I roled down the windows, opened up the sunroof and went for a drive.

Got home and went to role the windows up and my passenger window wouldnt move. Niether of the buttons (drivers or passenger) made the window go up.

I took the door panel off and the window is fine but will not go up
The motor makes a noise when I click the button going down but not going up.

I ohmed the wiring out so I know its not a fuse or relay.

Looks like the motor is shot to hell!!!

I also would like to know why in the hell did they rivit the
motor in???

Does any one have a step by step procedure pictorial on how to replace one of these dang fangled fancy big city motors??? LOL!!!

No serious....do ya???

Thanks!!!

Luis

OK the 99 isn't the switch that is the module.
Check adding power to the motor first. These switches go bad all the time.

Hi Luis,

I was having the exact same problem you described with a rear passenger door. Neither of the buttons would make the window go up, but all the other windows were operating fine. I had the same issue with the same door last year and had the window regulator switched out (which wasn't cheap), so needless to say I was rather ticked off. I decided to have a go myself this time. I took the door panel off and was trying to figure out how to get to the window to raise it so I could at least drive the car in the rain until I could get around to fixing it. While Googling I came across your question and was disappointed to not see instructions. I kept Googling and finally came across an interesting forum article on Matthew's Volvo Site.

Apparently this is a common issue with V70's and it might not be related to the window regulator. The window switch console on the drivers door can get dust and dirt in it which prevents both the main and door switches from operating the window. Following the instructions in the pdf in the first message I was able to clean the drivers door switch and get the window working in less than 15 minutes.

I thought you might want to try this first before drilling out the rivets.

Here's the link to the forum: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=12680

And here's the link to the pdf: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/2009/05/25/replace-window-switches-on-volvo-s70-v70/

Hope it helps!

You guys were right. The switch was gone. I ordered a new switch as the plastic on mine was broken. I guess dry rot.

But now I have an even bigger problem. I went and started dismantling the door and I cant get the window to go up straight.

I think the rails are out of alignment as I loosened the adjusters.

Is their a guid on how to do this somewhere???

Thanks!!!

Luis

There is a guide on the back of the door check to make sure it is in there. If not then some have a screw and others have a rivet from outside to remove the track. Then fix it.
