Hi, i have a 2000 v70 2.4t it idles at about 700-750 rpm (seems a bit low?) and when at the tail pipe it seems to have a slight miss or stutter (only very slight but noticable) about every 4-5 seconds, the car has about 70,000km or 43,750miles . any help would be awsome. and g'day from Australia.

Hi, Tech the car has been book serviced, (but as for the in between oil changes ???) in a pre purchase check the car came out smelling like roses .
I purchased it about a week ago, had a problem with oil pressure warning stop engine message, returned it to dealer he fixed the problem(said there was a build up of gunk in the sump), which was restricting oil flow/pressure.
Seems good now but same as original post, i'll give the cleaning of the throttle body a go, any tips on doing this would be great, or should i give it to a volvo service center.
I would just like to say that i have never seen many car forums before, the free service you give is invaluable, you do a great job, and most of the time you hit the nail right on the head, awsome work.
Thanks
Jamie
P.s I had a subaru forester for about 6 years it was a great car easy to maintain and ran like a bloody trojan but the family has out grown it. My question is how easy are volvo to maintain at home. Thanks.

They are pretty easy to maintain.
If you just bought it from a dealer a week ago make them do it for free.

Hi Tech, got the car back from the dealer today, said it was a fouled spark plug??(your thought's) Still seems to run a bit rough (heaps better than it was) , he said that it was typical of turbo volvo's to run a bit exhausty ,and volvo's in general to run a bit tappety ?? is he correct in saying this. The stutter while starting acceleration seems to be gone.
Please give me your thought's,
Regards
Jamie..

Hi Tech, Well i think you are correct , sounds like s*** to me as well, problem still persist's i have got the car booked into volvo on Tuesday, I'm going to pay the $100.00 bucks an hour, to diagnose the problem, and then pass it on to the car dealer, is there any other tests i should ask them to perform at volvo ?? how do they diagnose these cars, do they just plug them into a computer or what ?? thanks for all your advise, i feel that i'm closer to getting this thing right !!!

Besides cleaning the throttle body have them check the coils and make sure they aren't cracked and missfiring.

Tech, Well , i really don't care anymore, volvo dealer could not find any problem's with the car (independant opinion) they told me unless there is no message coming up, it's no good putting it onto the computer because it will not diagnose anything, asked him about the E.T.M he said that he has never seen one fail before or cleaned one, ( could they be a different setup in Australia??) the only problem the could find was the plastic clips holding down the airbox were broken, $14 for each clip 1/2 hour to fix, i will most probably get the E.T.M cleaned next time it's in for service, they said the car was in perfect health.... this was a unbias report from a volvo dealer , well it's got me F****d , Tech thanks for your help. i'll keep popping in from time to time as i find this site most interesting..... Still idle's rough????????????

Im not sure if it is much different for your car.

The air temp sensor should be part of the mass flow sensor.

Hi Guys & Tech I Have installed a pod style air filter, i removed the old air box and air intake, the car sounds alot more throatie, and you can really hear the turbo blowing off i think ?? will this kind of mod make the car run really different... it seem's to be not performing as well as before.... As i have asked before will this affect the ECU or will the ECU take some time to get used to this style of filter.... any advise would be greatly received...
Regards
Jamie...

I dont't know where and I'm not even sure I read this, but for some reason I thought I read somewhere that you should not put the pod style air filter on the Turbo model.
