Default Service Required light

I've got a 2001 V70 T5 manual with about 46K. Recently the service required light started coming on at startup (just after the warranty ran out, don't you know.) A friend has a tool that reads the OBD-II code from the port under the dash, but this came up empty. The light goes off after a couple of minutes, and the car is running fine. I really hate to take it in because that just sets me up for anything that they want to find wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Dave

It is a reminder light for when the service is due.(Oil change etc.)
Do a search for SERVICE LIGHT RESET and then you should find the instructions to reset it.

If not let me know.

I tried searching and could not find how to reset the service light for a V70. I would like to reset the one on my 98 also.

I found this site, which didn't work on my 2001, but maybe on your 98

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/reset.php

This works on my 2001, from the alt.autos.volvo forum that I got from groups.google.com.

Here's the truth about service light reset. This works with all Volvos 1999
and onward. 850s and 1998 S/C/V70 require a Volvo garage reset.

1. key in I position
2. hold trip meter button in
3. turn ignition to II position
4. wait until service icon flashes twice
5. release trip meter button

Service light should be reset and trip meter remains at previous setting.

I know, but it didn't hurt to try. That tool is expensive so I will just have the light reset the nex time it is in the shop for smething.

Hey, Tried it on my 2000 v70 xc, flashed twice then fired her up and the light stayed off. Thanks a bunch that was an annoying light for awhile.
