Default The shop's analysis:

What do you guys think about the validity of these repairs that apparently need to happen? I brought it in for a cylinder #3 misfire, and they said the connector is bad, and replaced it. They also replaced a leaky oil cap, and they said the "Crank case ventilation oil separator is clogged. Need to replace oil separator", which was also done. Those 3 repairs were to the tune of $550.

They also said the front o2 sensor was going in and out (I confirmed that by pulling a code) and they said the ENTIRE axle needs to be replaced due to a pin hole in the axle boot. ??? These two were estimated at over $900.

Thoughts? '01 T5 manual

Default Thoughts

Hello, Given the time required to remove the intake manifold et al (I'm looking at doing this job on mine) and the time required to splice on a plug and the cost of the parts the total doesn't seem too bad. Reasonable if done at a dealership.
Front oxygen sensors on a non-turbo,~$230 internet. An axle,~$100 internet, should take an hour to swap out, I've heard. I got mine for $75 on sale and am changing it for the same reason. Give me 1.5 hours to swap it. EVERYONE says to replace an axle rather than repair one of it's boots. $900 seems high. Kira

There was a volvo dealer tech hanging out here awhile back (haven't seen him posting lately) that claimed he never replaced CV axles for torn boots unless there was also a balance/vibration issue. He would just rebuild them with new boots; claimed it was pretty simple. Never done it myself...

I know you could get into vibration issues with some of the cheaper aftermkt axles.
